History
La lotta (formerly "lutta", from the Latin lucta) is to hand combat between two opponents or the phase of the battle in which the two contestants end up locked in direct contact. The term refers particularly to techniques, movements and counter applied in order to gain a physical advantage, as positions of dominance, outputs and submissions, or to injure an opponent.
The fight is one of the oldest forms of combat. The origins of the struggle can be traced back up to 15,000 years ago through paintings on the walls of caves in France.
Ancient Rome drew heavily from Greek struggle, but it eliminated part of its brutality and its "sporty" in favor of a more targeted approach to physical and mental training of citizens and soldiers.

Style
Lucta volutatoria It refers to all the fighting techniques applied when the two wrestlers are no longer in a standing position. Much of many martial arts and combat sports including the fight to the ground is the placement and obtaining dominance on the opponent. This situation (usually above it) allows the wrestler in advantageous position a wide range of options, such as trying to escape, getting up, getting to control immobilization and wear down the opponent, make a technical submission as a lever, or hit him quickly. The wrestler on the ground, on the other hand, focuses mainly in leaving the situation and improve its position, usually with a reversal.
