History
The Ranggeln is a variant of the struggle as traditionally practiced by the people of the German language of the Central Alps . It is particularly prevalent in the ' South Tyrol , in Tyrol , in Carinthia , in Salzburg and in Bavaria.
The Ranggeln is closely related to the Schwingen , the struggle Swiss.
The term of German origin, can be literally translated to fight rusticana. The origin of the term is to be traced back to disputes between the shepherds, when they had to contend the boundaries of areas of pasture .

Style
There are different and very specific rules, but the ultimate goal is to land the ball, with both shoulders on the ground. Usually competitions are held outdoors. The different categories are divided by age, and not by weight.
The fighters are fighting for the title of Hagmoar they get after three straight wins. The arbitrators may exert in turn have won in the past of the challenges; they acquire the name of Schermtax.
Once, the winner of the competition, was handed the white pen Schneidfeder (pen courage), but today is awarded a medal.
